Going to need to wait a couple of weeks on that, because all we've got is Maze Runner: The Death Cure. Just remember, I'm not reviewing these movies, but rather predicting where they'll end up on the Tomatometer. Let's take a look at what This Rotten Week has to offer. We are hitting something of the later-winter movie doldrums, meaning we only get one less-than-inspiring franchise tweener flick hitting the big screen. The Maze Runner series, based on the popular young adult series of the same name follows Thomas who wakes up in a maze and is tasked with running around a lot and fighting off some evil corporation that's doing evil things to the world. ” #4 A great release date: January 26, 2018 The first film, Maze Runner, started the franchise off fine enough from a critical perspective. But the sequel, Scorch Trials started what would be the slow and steady decline we sometimes see with these franchise flicks. Early reviews for The Death Cure are trending even lower with the movie sitting at through about 30 reviews. That, almost assuredly, continues to dip over the course of the week. I wouldn't be surprised if it landed in the mid-thirties when things are all said and done. Maze Runner The Death Cure Development. Director Wes Ball helmed the first two movies in the franchise and is back again for the third. Again, it's trending in the wrong direction and the viewers left are likely just hardcore fans of the franchise. This happens with these young adult series (think Divergent). You either love the books and are headed to the theater or are out completely. Critics likely will trend with the latter group. Maze Runner The Death Cure Full Movie Storyline The final part of the young adult trilogy directed by Wes Ball comes to a bellowing conclusion with The Death Cure. Plunging us straight onto a moving train, we rejoin Thomas (Dylan O’Brien), one of those who endured psychological experimentation like a lab rat to find a solution to the Flare, a killer virus that turns humans into rabid flesh-eaters. With the Flare still wiping out millions, Thomas and his fellow rebels are looking to storm The Last City, a walled and guarded refuge where those yet to be infected have secreted themselves. Their mission is to find Minho (Ki Hong Lee), one of their number who is still being held and tested by W.C.K.D, the ruthless company charged with finding a cure. With Thomas accompanied by Newt (Thomas Brodie-Sangster), Brenda (Roza Salazar) and others, the action chugs along well, notably a dizzying scene when a bus full of escaped kids is picked up by a crane, swinging it around the city’s skyscrapers. There’s also a nice addition to the cast in the shape of Walton Goggins, who plays a deformed outlier who helps the gang penetrate The Last City. 'There was a time when I did not know if I would ever do it again. And that thought scared me too, anyway, those six months have already passed, but even then I can still remember those six months as if Ball’s enthusiasm for James Dashner’s series of books shines through – perhaps slightly too much, with the final act taking a little too long to find closure. The adult actors, including Barry Pepper and Giancarlo Esposito, are also given precious little to chew on. But this was always a franchise for teenagers first and foremost; adolescent fans will lap it up.
